New research coming out of the University of Iceland introduces the novel idea of adding EES technologies such as Lithium-ion batteries across the country’s grid to store it’s 100 percent renewably sourced electricity, effectively creating the world’s first renewable “green battery.”
[pdf] The Red Sands project will be the largest standalone BESS to reach this stage on the continent, designed to store power during off-peak hours and release it when demand is highest—providing essential grid stability and flexibility for South Africa’s electricity network.
[pdf] Portugal’s Ministry of Energy has announced that it has allocated €100 million ($104.2 million) to 43 energy storage projects which should be installed by the end of 2025. A total of 79 applications were vying for grant support secured under the country’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).
