Through an innovative combination of solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), the project aims to provide stable green electricity for Malaysia’s hyperscale data centers, addressing the core demands of the country’s rapidly growing digital economy.
[pdf] The project, dubbed IceOpt: Storing The Future, will see the optimization of an already modern grid. Iceland has been the world standard in renewable generation, with onlookers borrowing their techniques to improve domestic energy portfolios in the shift towards a greater renewable revolution.
[pdf] Launched on May 22 in the southern Kolda region, the hybrid plant will generate 60 megawatts of solar power and store up to 72 megawatt-hours of energy. Once operational, it is expected to supply clean electricity to more than 25,000 households, benefiting nearly 235,000 people.
