Construction commenced in March 2025 on the Basra Sun project, a 1,000 MW solar power plant developed through a joint venture between France’s TotalEnergies and Qatar’s QatarEnergy. This plant is expected to supply clean electricity to over 350,000 homes upon completion.
[pdf] Swiss energy company MET Group has inaugurated the largest stand-alone electricity storage system in Hungary’s history. The new installation, located at the Dunamenti power plant in Százhalombatta near Budapest, has a rated power output of 40 MW and an energy storage capacity of 80 MWh.
[pdf] The battery system will have a discharge capacity of 38 MW and a storage capacity of up to 70.8 MWh, designed to operate for around twenty years. An environmental assessment is required because the investor, the local company Funicula, plans to develop the site as a standalone solar power plant.
