The Red Sands project will be the largest standalone BESS to reach this stage on the continent, designed to store power during off-peak hours and release it when demand is highest—providing essential grid stability and flexibility for South Africa’s electricity network.
[pdf] Approved by the PPP Board, this 125MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant will support Ethiopia’s clean energy transition. Located in the Somali Regional State, the project will span 227 hectares and generate sustainable electricity for Ethiopian households and industries.
