MANILA, PHILIPPINES (10 December 2024) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a transaction advisory services agreement with Samoa’s Electric Power Corporation (EPC) to support the development of a solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems with installations planned for the country’s two largest islands, Upolu and Savai’i.
[pdf] The project, which is a Ready-to-Build 40 MW / 80 MWh BESS site being developed by the renewable energy actor Arise, will play a crucial role in supporting the Swedish energy system.
[pdf] The Red Sands project will be the largest standalone BESS to reach this stage on the continent, designed to store power during off-peak hours and release it when demand is highest—providing essential grid stability and flexibility for South Africa’s electricity network.
