In partnership with Space Solar, Reykjavik Energy, and Transition Labs, Iceland aims to build a solar power plant in orbit, projected to generate up to 30 megawatts of electricity — enough to power thousands of homes.
[pdf] After production finishes, the usage stage begins when solar panels go to work converting sunlight into energy. During this period, the power generated by solar PV installations offsets the energy used during the production stage, before delivering renewable energy to the grid.
[pdf] This project — a collaboration between the Rwandan government, Hakan Madencilik, and Energy Solutions — will meet the electricity needs of over 300,000 households and support the country’s goal of achieving 100% electrification by 2024.
